This week is Wool Week! At Mattressman, we’re big fans of natural fillings, and wool is a particularly great one! Why does wool make such a good mattress filling? Let us tell you!
Especially important as we head into the colder months of the year, the natural crimp in wool means that it traps warm air, providing a cosy sleeping surface.
Wool is super absorbent
This doesn’t mean that a wool mattress will cause overheating — wool is also great for wicking away moisture during the night, absorbing up to 30% of its own weight, far more than synthetic fibres. Any moisture absorbed will evaporate during the day, leaving the bed cool and dry by the time you’re ready to sleep again.
Wool is durable
Wool retains its natural springy texture, as wool fibres can be bent up to 20,000 times without breaking. This means wool mattresses are long-lasting and will be comfortable for years to come.
Wool is very comfortable
The soft feeling of wool makes it a dream to sleep on! Cashmere, lambswool and mohair are all luxury materials found in the highest quality mattresses and chosen for their strength and softness!
Wool is naturally hypoallergenic
Allergic reactions to wool are very rare, making it a perfect material for those with sensitive skin. On top of that, wool doesn’t attract dust mites, so is a good choice if you have allergies.
