Time for a New Bed?

It’s National Bed Month! Every year, the Sleep Council runs a month-long awareness campaign about the importance of a good bed to a good night’s sleep!

Sleeping well is just as important to your physical and mental wellbeing as a good diet and regular exercise. You probably already know how much it hurts to get out of bed in the morning if you’ve gone to bed late the night before, but the benefits go beyond ensuring that you wake up feeling refreshed. Sleep improves your memory, concentration, and mood, and has numerous physical health benefits, with studies suggesting that getting a decent night’s sleep will help prevent migraines, lower your risk of heart problems, and give your immune system a boost—just what the doctor ordered for beating those winter sniffles!

You get it. Sleep is good! So how does your bed play into it?

The right mattress provides support during the night, keeping your spine aligned and helping to ease back pain. Memory foam, pocket springs, and mattresses that combine the two are ideal, as both of these mould to your contours, providing better and more personalised support than regular open coil mattresses. But there’s a huge choice of fillings, tensions, and base types out there, so make sure you do your research, ask lots of questions, and test out as many mattresses as possible to get an idea of what’s best for you. Take a look at our filters to get an idea of the options available!

A good bed is about more than just the mattress, though—you can increase the support your mattress offers and prolong the lifespan of your mattress by getting a decent bed frame to go with it. Not all bed frames are the same—sprung slats provide a more bouncy and cushioned support, while solid slats, common with wooden bed frames, are great if you’re looking for a firmer feel. We sell a huge range of bed frames at Mattressman, catering to all budgets. You’ll find bed frames for both adults and children, with both modern and traditional designs available in metal, wood, fabric and leather.

Divans are by far the most popular bed base, as they’re both practical and comfortable, and often available as a bundle with a mattress for convenience. Again you’ve got loads of options when it comes to deciding which divan base is best for you, with platform top divan bases offering firm support, as well as great value for money, while sprung edge and pocket sprung divan bases provide a softer sleeping surface. Our Designer Divans from the British Bed Company are available to buy as a bundle with all of the mattresses on our site. Designer Divans offer you lots of room for customisation, including a huge choice of colours, castors, and storage options.

Why not take National Bed Month to check whether your bed is still giving you a good night’s sleep, and if not, take advantage of our spring sale and get yourself a new one?
